The Time We Drove On No Roads.
Reading the title, you'll surely be like what?! Did you drive in heaven or what?
But this is a serious matter now. Delhi,Haryana , Punjab is full of smoke there is no visibility. The smoke has mixed with fog in the winter season to form SMOG. The reason is the burning of crops in Haryana and parts of Punjab. But this happens every year in Punjab and Haryana, then why is it this time that, northern India is effected so much? No winds are blowing, neither is happening rainfall.
I present a short but true story to you about how I felt at that time.
''Everything done?'', Mumma asked when all of us sat in the car.
''Yes!'', my brother and I screamed.
''Okay, so let's go!'' Pappa said as he drove the car.
We were going to my parents' hometown near Punjab again, yes again, it was the second time in the month that we sit in the car, for a four hour long journey. First, I used to love it but now it seems boring. This year we've had almost nine trips to Punjab and this was the tenth one. Sometimes we go once in a three months. But this time the situation as such that we had to go.Someone had passed away and so my parent had to be present there. I've started it, going there almost every month.
It was around 9 when we stopped by a restaurant at the highway to have dinner and move on then. At 9:45 we sat in the car again our stomachs full now.
I hear my brother snoring as I look out of the window. I don't remember when even I slept.
And CRASH!!! I heard a noise which wakes me up in the car. I look out of the window, I couldn't see anything, nothing, it was white. I asked my father where we were.
''Nothing happened , there was a truck in front of us and so I had to apply brakes. There is so much fog I can't see anything'', my father replies.
First, there were some cars which were guiding us to the roads, and we could easily cover around twenty five per cent of our journey. But then we took the flyover, and suddenly we got blind, and we could see nothing, nothing means nothing, not even the road, it seemed as if someone had sprayed white paint over our windows. For almost four hours, my father drove slowest as he could. We were really afraid that we would turn to the wrong road as we couldn't see the roads. Okay so for me , it was the most scared type of journey I had ever experienced . I insisted my father to stop the car and wait, but it was no use. We cannot just stop over the roads and wait for the fog to clear, that's stupidity.
We sighed with relief when some more cars joined us as we guided each other. There was one car which was making a lot of noise by honking because it has white fog headlights which could guide us easily. White fog lights are likely to make your path a lot more visible they clutter the fog and made thing more clear.
We crossed the borders of Ambala, and again we were driving with zero visibility . Slow really slow we drove to my grandparents' house. I was almost in tears when the fog came again.I was such a stupid I was thinking that an accident would certainly happen.
Instead, we reached at three in the morning . We took the name of god and greeted my grandpa with a smile of relief.
I nearly touched death.
